LinkedIn banner – 1584 × 396 px

A personal LinkedIn banner measures 1584 × 396 pixels, a ratio of 4:1. The critical area is bottom left, where the profile picture covers part of the motif.

Format: LinkedIn Profile Banner (4:1) · 1584 × 396 pixels · aspect ratio 4:1

LinkedIn banner size: 1584 × 396 px (4:1)

The personal LinkedIn banner is 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio. Two things decide whether it looks right. First, your profile picture overlaps the lower left corner, so whatever sits there disappears behind it – the safe-zone guides mark exactly that area before you export. Second, LinkedIn crops the banner differently on phones than on desktop: the outer edges are the first to go.

Place your face, your claim or your contact details in the upper middle and treat the left quarter as decoration only. The image is displayed at 1584 pixels wide, which is more than most screens show, so detail survives – but keep lettering reasonably large, because LinkedIn still compresses the file for delivery to mobile. PNG keeps sharp type; JPEG suits photographic banners.

Because the banner is often the first thing a visitor sees, most people also want the matching post image: the LinkedIn post tool crops the feed image at 1200 × 1200 and shows where your caption text gets cut off. For a business account, the company page cover needs 1512 × 256 pixels instead, and the link preview uses 1200 × 627 for the card that appears under a shared link.

Good to know

Company pages use a different size (1512 × 256) – many German-language guides still quote outdated values here.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The three questions that come up most often about the 1584 × 396 banner – answered with the numbers this tool actually uses.

How much of the banner does the profile picture cover?
The avatar sits in the lower left corner. The guides in this tool reserve roughly the left twelfth and the bottom tenth of the frame for it, and they mark that area on the canvas before you export – so you can see what disappears behind the picture. A face, a claim or a contact line belongs above and to the right of it.
Why does my banner look different on a phone than on desktop?
LinkedIn keeps the banner at full width on a large screen but cuts the outer areas on narrow ones, and it shifts the visible section vertically. Anything you do not want to lose therefore belongs in the upper middle. Exporting at 1584 × 396 pixels means LinkedIn starts from the same file every time and only decides how much of it fits.
Is 1584 × 396 also the right size for a company page?
No. A personal profile uses 1584 × 396 at a 4:1 ratio, while a company page uses 1512 × 256 at roughly 5.9:1 – noticeably wider and much flatter. A file prepared for one of them will be cropped hard on the other. There is a separate tool for the company page cover, and it uses those dimensions.
